Crackers, Colts, and Christmas Chaos

2nd December 2007
Another thoroughly unremarkable week, livened only by the weather doing its best impression of a hormonal teenager, sunny one moment, sulking the next.

Friday saw Sarah and me teaming up for the School Christmas Fayre, where we manned the Christmas hamper stall with all the charm and persuasion of market traders. Miraculously, we managed to flog enough tickets to rake in nearly £100. Not bad for a couple of amateurs armed with tinsel and festive cheer.

Saturday, I had the dubious pleasure of watching our Colts scrape a win against a Northampton side. It was one of those matches where we really should’ve lost, but thanks to a last-minute interception try, we snatched victory like a toddler pinching biscuits. I also purchased 300 Christmas crackers for school parties, which probably says more about my mental state than I’d care to admit.

Sunday, Sue braved the elements and drove to Worcester to meet up with Phillipa for the traditional pre-Christmas gift exchange and sisterly chinwag. The weather was grim on the way, but improved just in time for shopping chaos. Apparently, the entire West Midlands had the same idea.

Back at home, Sarah and I rustled up a joint effort of chicken and chips for lunch, culinary teamwork at its finest. Jamie, clearly preferring foreign cuisine, drove to Northampton for a Chinese (though I’d wager ours came with fewer questionable prawns). Afterwards, I popped to Corby and actually bought some Christmas presents, yes, in early December! Normally, I leave it to Christmas Eve and rely on adrenaline and desperation. I’d like to say Sue’s legendary organisation has rubbed off on me, but I suspect it’s more fear than influence.
